FT301 on the bench. I ONLY FIX MY OWN RADIOS NOW.
That way..if the radio is too expensive and time consuming to
repair or too much of a hassle..I can leave it be or just give up
on it!
REPAIRS THAT I DO FOR OTHERS AT $10 AN HOUR are plug

Above pictured a healthy undamaged coil (spare part)
which I will use to replace the heat damaged coil form
above pictured right (above).

Pictured right ---> the coil slug associated support rod got
badly damaged when I tried to free up the mechanism.
The coil melted and the tuning slug got jammed and the
whole mechanism got out of whack ! -- I fixed it using some
spares from my junker FT301 collection.

JUST BECAUSE Im into the TECHNICAL STUFF..ELECTRONICS and components and stuff like that.. doesnt mean all hams are into this kind of
thing. Some hams just like operating the radio. That is fine too ! -- HAM RADIO IS WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO BE -- TO YOU !

Its a good retirement activity and hobby. You can even operate the radio using a computer and the internet to talk to other hams. I dont do
this (myself)..however.. some people are really into it.

- FT301 articles -

NOTE Ive moved my Parts selling and small
repair service to my new (commercial) web
site.     I sell parts for the FT301 and other older
solid state radios from the 1970s and early 80s.
(see my other commercial web site:

Netty Electronics)
NETTY ELECTRONICS LINK
HERE  <<---
Above: pictured the parts bins. I have many many parts I have collected
and parts radios and junked radios. I fix them and part them out sometimes
and catalogue and research them and put them into a big data base. I will
never finish the job actually-- but I always look forward to my time doing
this.

This is a very small portion of my inventory.
I USED TO WORK IN THE
DEFENCE DEPT UP HERE IN CANADA AS A MATERIAL MANAGER and
Technical specialist for ICs and Resistors and small discrete components
and I have built upon that knowledge and experience. I study older
components and I test components as well. All part of my interests.

THE PARTS COLLECTING and gathering hobby HAS turned into a small

above: small city lot and TV tower. I have a modified LNR Precision EF QUAD antenna up currently
(modified by inserting a PAR EF 40-20-10 coil) - it is a 40 ft loaded wire on 40. Works very well actually
on 40 and the other bands. See the article titled: My current LNR "MODIFIED"  QUAD BAND
ANTENNA.  you can READ ABOUT THIS LNR QUAD BAND (modified) in an article below listed .
I have a collection of Ten Tec Argonauts. Ive
owned one since 1974. I was first licenced as
VE3ECJ back in 1972. Got interested in QRP
soon after getting on the air. I have some very
memorable qsos with qrpers and with qrp. I
operate abit at higher power levels up to 100
watts. (all wire antennas).
Why do I write so many articles concerning electronic components. Well.. I sell them on my other site: www.nettyelectronics.com

but: I had been working with them quite a bit when I worked in the Federal Government (Canadian Military Supply System) NATO parts
and MIL SPEC parts. I catalogued and was Material Life Cycle Manager for Microcircuits and Resistors and other small discrete
components. -- That job ended in 2004 with my early retirement up here to Elliot Lake, Ontario Canada -- however.. I have many
questions and I am interested in components .. so... I have carried on working with them in my retirement years.
Its very peaceful working on
the bench recording parts in
my books and then
transferring them to my
on-line catalogue.

Pure cataloguing. Items are
catalogued for what they are
not who wants to use them or
any such nonsense as that.
I make a heck of alot less
money now but I am free to
learn and I dont receive any
road blocks.
I collect knobs. Knobs are a big seller. Problem is there are so many styles and
varieties. I have some spare FT301 knobs now. My Atlas 201x knobs, Argosy
and spare Argonaut knobs are pretty well sold out however. I buy or take
donations of old stuff like this ! I have some SBE 34 knobs in good condx now.
A fellow in the U.S. sent me these Argosy boards and I have them available for
sale. I also have many discrete components for older 1970s and early 80s
radios.
My other site "NETTY ELECTRONCS" has my commercial small business
activities.

IF you have old junk or battered up radios or whatever.. I can part them out.
I test the parts and circuit boards and I repair them as well.
I experiment with homebrew antennas as well (when the weather is good).
Above..I wound a coil for a "knock off version"of the LNR Precision match box.
I use end fed wire antennas almost exclusively now.
My modified LNR precision QUAD band antenna can be read about from my article in the
antenna section (listed above). NOTE: the T130-2 in the picture. On my other site:
www.nettyelectronics.com - I sell parts like toroids and enamelled wire and other components.
73 Earl VE3AB   QRP ARCI 3757 - I also belong to
Radio Amateurs of Canada
Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters ( I like fishing not
hunting anymore)
and Flying Pigs arc and CW groups and Yahoo Groups and
OVQRP and other groups.
For some odd reason - this coil in my ft301 tuning rack (preselector)
melted and the physical mechanism that tunes the 3 coils got damaged.

Stuff happens. Fortunately..I have plenty of spares for FT301s. Just
write me
earl@nettyelectronics.com or visit my site for NETTY
ELECTRONICS.
SELLING COMPONENTS is a
way of generating some
money to buy more
components and test gear
and the odd ham radio
piece of gear. It is a hobby
more that anything..but to
satisfy the government
(whom I used to work for!) I
HAVE MADE IT OFFICIAL
THAT IT IS A SMALL HOME
BASED BUSINESS ! Selling
components also pays for
my computer/web page
hobby activities.

I took an early retirement
option from the feds.
BACK YARD EXPERIMENTATION WITH A
HOMEBREW END FED ANTENNA and NEW
antenna at VE3AB pictured left a 6 foot dia.
LOOP ! -
here is the article Im starting to
write concerning the STL antenna Im trying
out .

I use end fed antennas now because they are
good performers and fit in well with the layout
of my yard here in Elliot Lake, Ontario
CANADA. The STL is (however) gaining favor !

The tower is about 28 foot high with a 12 foot
extension mast. Self supporing TV tower since
2005. Works well and low profile for city lot.
I'm pretty well sold out of TIL 306s and
TIL 308s but I have quite a few other
FT301 spares.

I sell used tested crystals for $8.00 ea
- knobs - some panels and other stuff
all at reasonable prices - The ICs I
have some new stock spare ICs and
transistors and I can likely get used
tested RF output components like the
driver transistors, finals and other
parts. (All tested good of course).
MANUALS            (mostly older solid state radios and accessories)
